A large crowd gathered for the ‘Ram Katha’ at a local school ground in Rajasthan. It is a religious programme. Whole ground was built by metal poles. The ‘Ram Katha’ (Lord Ram’s story) was organized by the Mata Rani Bhatiyani Mandir Sansthan of Jasol at around 4:30 pm. Around 300 people gathered for this religious procession at a local school ground. A huge tent supported by metal poles had collapsed at Jasol in Rajasthan’s Barmer district on Sunday, June 23 in the afternoon. At least 14 people died and over 50 injured when this mishap took place in the area. A sudden rain and dust storm also reported during the procession. Due to this sudden rain and storm, metal poles collapsed on crowd. Some people also died due to electrocution after electricity cables snapped and fell on the poles. Local police team, ambulance, State Disaster Response Fund and rescue team reached to the area to handle the situation. All injured admitted to the Nahata Government Hospital in the nearby Balotra town for treatment and one person with burns was referred to Jodhpur. Huge disruption caused in the area after this incident.
Many roads affected due to this tragedy. Power supply was disconnected in the area. Rescue team removed all poles and electric wires from the ground. Traffic officials closed roads for precautionary measures. Nakoda Road, Balotra- Jasol -Nakoda road and Jasol Tilwara roads were affected due to this mishap. Power supply was restored in the night. Rescue work completed after 5 to 6 hours. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had announced five lakh each to the next of the kin of those who lost their lives in this incident. The injured will be provided two lakh as compensation.
