3 killed in wall collapse in Kanpur

Three laborers were killed after a 14-ft high wall at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) collapsed trapping four laborers beneath it. The incident occurred when the laborers were sleeping under a tree close to the wall which collapsed.

It was a temporary wall of an under-construction basement of Earth Science department at the institute. Victims were then rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) hospital where three of the four victims succumbed to their injuries while the other is critical. The deceased laborers were identified as Mani, Pinki and Robin. They were native of Malda town in West Bengal.

The other laborers working at the site stated that they heard a loud noise and rushed to the spot where the incident happened. IIT professors and other campus staff then came forward for search and rescue operation. According to the other laborers, the accident occurred due to rainfall and the weak structure.
