The morning of February 3, 2019 became unpleasant for the nation when the news of an express train derailment spread. 11 coaches of 12487 Seemanchal Express derailed at Sahadai Buzurg near Bihar’s Hajipur early on the day. 6 people were killed and around 30 people got injured in this incident. All of the wounded people were shifted to Sadar hospital at Hajipur. According to the authorities, the incident happened because of rail track fracture of CMS X-Ing at Barauni end of station yard. The train derailed at around 3.58 am. The derailed coaches included three sleeper compartments, one AC compartment and one general compartment.
Further, the reports indicate that after getting the information of the mishap, the authorities in no time generated several helpline numbers for the affected people. The rescue operation was carried out for a very long time. The mishap created a ruckus in the local residents that they became a hurdle in the rescue operation of National Disaster Relief Force. Some miscreants even pelted stones at the NDRF and Railway Police allegedly for not allowing them near the damaged train. After a while of the incident, the unaffected 12 coached were moved to Hajipur and preceded towards Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station. 7 passenger trains on this route were cancelled. Also, 12 trains from Uttar Pradesh to Chappra were diverted via Muzaffarpur – Chapra following this incident. Passengers also faced inconvenience while commuting on this route as several other trains were affected. A huge disruption was caused due to this incident.
