A dreadful situation took place during the late hour of January 24 after the roof of an under-construction building collapsed at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.
According to the reports, the incident took place at around 11:30 pm of January 24 when the concreting work of the roof was being carried out. The building was being constructed to link Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the Biju Patnaik International Airport. It was a horrendous moments for the people in the airport area when the roof suddenly collapsed. They immediately contacted the fire department giving the information regarding the horrific situation.
Teams of CISF, ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force), CRPF, Police personnel and Fire Services Department soon rushed to the spot after they received the information regarding the incident and started the rescue operation to bring out the laborers who were trapped under the debris. A team of dog squad of the NDRF was also deployed at the spot to trace out people who were trapped under the frame of the 10,000-sq ft roof.
After the rescue operation was conducted to save the people trapped under the debris of collapsed roof it was found out that one person died in this incident while the twenty others sustained injuries and were rushed to the Capital Hospital.
According to the sources, the flight services were not affected due to the incident as the building was being constructed to link the old and the new terminal. A case has been filed under the Airfield Police Station of the city against the construction agency.
