Congress party workers staged protest demonstration outside Lucknow BJP Office on July 30 alleging conspiracy in Unnao rape victim’s accident

The Unnao rape victim’s accident case took a political turn as the Congress party workers staged protest demonstrations in Lucknow on July 30. It all began after the car in which the survivor was travelling to Rae Bareli with her two aunts and her lawyer, was hit by a truck on July 28. Both aunts of the survivor were died of injuries while the survivor and her lawyer were critically injured and placed on ventilator support. The family members believed there is a “conspiracy” to wipe out the family to derail the case against BJP MLA – Sengar, the accused in this rape case.

Alleging conspiracy behind the accident, Congress party and family members of survivor staged protest march to BJP State Headquarter in Lucknow on Tuesday. Opposition accuses BJP – the ruling party in the state, of ‘extending patronage’ to party MLA Kuldeep Sengar, the key rape accused. Congress also demands expulsion of the BJP MLA from the party. Hundreds of protesters had participated in this protest shouting slogans and holding placards with a slogan ‘Mahilao ke sammaan mein, hum ab maidan mein’. However, this protest march was stopped by police near GPO by erecting barricades. Many protesters including, Savitribai Phule and other workers were detained during this agitation. Followed by police intervention the agitators held an all-night protest outside the Gandhi Statue near the General Post Office.

Similar protests were also held outside King George’s Medical University as well as outside the Vidhan Sabha in Lucknow on July 30. These protests caused various disruptions around GPO, Vidhan Sabha and Gandhi Statue. Traffic movement on Vidhan Sabha Marg was also affected due to huge public gathering and police barricading.
