A major fire erupted at the boundary of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park near Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg in Goregaon on December 3 around 6:30 pm in an open plot near an IT Park Mumbai.
As soon as the firefighting department received a call from the spot they immediately rushed towards the spot to douse the fire. 10 fire tenders were present on the spot to fight the flames.
According to the sources, the blaze was of Level 3 and no casualties or injuries were reported in this mishap. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. This massive fire was visible form a long distance which created panic among the residents. It started spreading towards residential areas such as New Mhada Colony near the New Dindoshi Green Hill Society in Goregaon.
Due to lack of access in the forested area of the Aarey milk colony, the firefighter officials along with the fire vehicles were finding it very difficult to reach the spot.
Sources revealed that green tree branches which do not catch fire easily were used to bring the flames in control. After so many attempts the fire was doused after 12 hours on December 4.
Note: The land where the fire has erupted belongs to F E Dinshaw trust property and has been taken over by Raheja builders. It lies in the Dindoshi Hills between SGNP and Aarey Colony.
