Fire broke out in a slum area at Pune on November 28

A major fire broke out in a slum area at Patil Estate’s Lane No. 3 in Shivajinagar of Pune on November 28. Thirty-six fire tenders and 100 water tankers were brought in from Pune, Pimpri, Khadki cantonment areas to fight the flames. Around 100 hutments were damaged as ten cylinders engulfed in flames which led to explosions in the area. The fire brigade was informed and with the help of the local residents, the fire brigade personnel and police authorities shifted some LPG cylinders to safer places. Two persons were reported to be injured in this mishap and were immediately shifted to the nearby hospital. Traffic was also disrupted in the area as firefighting teams were being operated in the region. According to the sources, the fire was brought under control within 45 minutes and then the cooling operation was conducted by showering water on the hutments. Sources revealed that the fire was spread due to scrap and inflammable material.

Note- The slum, located on the old Pune-Mumbai highway, is one of the biggest slums in the city and has witnessed multiple fire incidents in the past.
