A massive fire broke out in three coaches of the Silchar- Trivandrum Express train at Silchar station in Assam on Sunday, June 9 in the morning. Silcher is the main city in southern Assam adjoining Tripura. No one was hurt but three bogies had completely damaged in this mishap. The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), Silchar fire tenders and railway authorities had immediately reached on the spot. Fire brought under control after two hours. The cause of the fire is not ascertained yet. No train services were affected due to this fire.
This fire broke out from a sleeper coach compartment adjacent to the pantry car of the train. Train caught fire an hour before the Silchar-Agartala train was scheduled to leave for Tripura. When passengers noticed the blaze they immediately informed to the railway authorities. Panic situation created in the area. After this fire, passengers quickly shifted in the Silchar-Agartala train to another platform. All the coaches of the train were locked when the train caught fire. The fire started from the pantry car at 7:45 am and slowly moved on to two other sleeper class bogies in a very short time. Train services resumed after fire brought under control.
