Howrah-Yesvantpur Duronto Express delayed by over 6 hours due to a minor mishap in Balasore on November 22
On November 22, the Howrah – Yesvantpur Duronto Express met with a minor accident in Odisha’s Balasore district. The train was passing through Rupsa junction on platform 1 when it hit the pieces of equipment kept on the track. Though there were no reports of any injury, the train remained stranded for hours as front portion of the train was damaged. A team of engineers was dispatched from Kharagpur to carry out repair work. Meanwhile, many others trains on this route were also affected due to this mishap.
The incident happened at Rupsa Junction in Balasore district around 2.02 pm when the speeding train dashed with some equipment, which were mistakenly left near the tracks. After collision, the train experienced a jolt and almost got off the tracks but it somehow managed to remain on the track. The fuel tank, battery connection and hose pipe of the train were damaged following this accident. Passengers of the train faced hardships as the train was stalled for more than six hours. A team of engineers from Kharagpur was rushed to the spot to carry out necessary repair works. Train could be departed for forward journey only after the repair work was completed.
Train No. 12245 Howrah – Yesvantpur Duronto Express generally reaches Bhubaneswar at 4.50 pm but it reached at 11.12 pm due to this mishap. Similarly, many other train services on this route were also affected on this particular day.
