Major fire broke out in a woollen mill in Ludhiana; extinguished after 12 hours

A massive fire was broken out in a two-storey woollen factory located at Industrial area in Ludhiana on May 24 afternoon. Entire factory was engulfed in this fire and the goods & machinery stored inside the factory were destroyed in this inferno. No casualty was reported in this mishap. As many as 14 fire tenders were deployed at the incident location and the fire could be completely extinguished after 12 hours of efforts.

The fire was erupted in the RT Wollen Mill located at Industrial Area A on RK Road, near Cheema Chowk in Ludhiana around 12.25 pm on Sunday. The fire quickly spread and gripped entire two-storey building. Fire brigade was immediately sent fire engines from all five fire stations on Humbran Road, Gill Road, Focal Point and Sunder Nagar. Nearly 60 fire fighters were deployed to carry out the fire fighting operation who worked very hard to extinguish the flames. As many as 14 fire tenders had to make 100 rounds to control the fire as the operation continued for more than 12 hours. No casualty was reported as the mill was shut when this mishap happened.

The structure of the mill was spread in about 1500 square yards and had large stock of cotton, polyester and petroleum products. Fire fighters faced difficulties due to the heat that was being emitted out of the building. Due to the intensity of the fire, the factory walls had developed cracks spreading the fear of factory collapse among fire fighters. The walls of workers quarters also developed cracks and were evacuated for a precautionary measure. It is also given to understand that there were no fire prevention arrangements at the factory to avert any such mishaps. An electric short circuit in factory premises is said to be the cause of the fire.
