A major fire had broken out in the paint brush and colour manufacturing factory-godown located at Jai Mata Di compound of Kalher village in Bhiwandi on April 22. Around 22 fire tenders from the Bhiwandi Nizampura Fire Brigade, Thane City, Mira Bhayander and Ulhasnagar were deployed at the spot to fight the flames. No casualty was reported in this mishap however, the entire godown as well as five adjoining godowns were gutted in this fire.
The fire was erupted inside the godown situated on first floor of a building at Jai Mata Di compound at around 6.30 am. Three people were present inside the warehouse when the fire erupted. They immediately raised an alarm and informed the fire brigade about the fire. These three people also pulled out the cooking gas cylinder from the kitchen of the godown while escaping from the spot. This avoided the possible blast due to eruption of gas cylinder. Fire officials further informed that nobody was trapped inside the premises.
By the time the fire brigade arrived at the incident spot, the fire had spread across the godown and had also gripped five nearby godowns. The fire spread rapidly as the warehouse had paint, paint brushes, cloth, and plastic materials stored inside. Fire brigade personnel fought for nearly 10 hours and managed to completely extinguish the fire by around 3 pm. A newly constructed building which housed one family was evacuated as fire and smoke started spreading.
