A massive fire broke out at a Wincraft foam mattress factory on June 6, Thursday. This factory located on the Ambala – Chandigarh Highway in Kakru village near Ambala City, Haryana. After getting this fire information, Tahsildar, police team, ambulance and 12 fire tenders rushed on the spot. The exact reason behind the fire is yet unknown but according to sources, short circuit was the main cause of fire. Only three workers present inside the factory at the time of the inferno were rescued safely. No one was injured in this incident.
This factory was established in around one acre of area in village. Around 70 drums of chemicals kept inside the factory they burst in this mishap. The entire area engulfed in a thick black blanket of smoke in the factory. The whole premises and the godowns loaded with raw and finished products. Goods worth crores destroyed when this mishap occurred. Due to this thick smoke, panic situation created among the residents of adjoining localities. The power supply was cut in the factory from 2.30 am to 6.00 am.
At least 12 fire tenders from Ambala, Panchkula, Dera Bassi, Naraingarh, Kurukshetra and Army Cantonment were pressed into service. Seven foam fire extinguishers from Indian Oil Corporation and six from Ambala City were also pressed into the area to control the raging fire. The fire was doused after a struggle of six hours in the vicinity. Police investigation was underway in the premises.
