A major fire was broken out in a three-storey building located at Roshni Ghar Road in Inderganj area in Gwalior on May 18. Seven people were died while the building was completely gutted in this mishap. Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse off the flames. Fire brigade took more than two hours to completely extinguish the flames.
Fire brigade received the fire call at 10 am and ten fire tenders with rescue teams were immediately rushed to the spot. It is learnt that the fire was initially erupted in the paint shop situated on the ground floor of the building. The fire was rapidly spread in the houses on the upper two floors where 25 people lived. The building had no provision for an emergency exit which made the escape of the residents difficult. Seven of a family including four women and three children were died and four others received injuries in this mishap. Rescue team had to break a wall in the backyard of the building to rescue the trapped residents. The fire could be completely extinguished after two hours of efforts.
Adjoining houses were evacuated following this incident. The fire was suspected to be caused due to short circuit in the paint shop. The paint which was highly inflammable and caused the rapid spread of the fire. At least 30 feet high flames could be seen billowing from the fire scene. A rescue operation was carried out and 11 people were rescued from the building. The injured victims were rushed to the hospital for necessary medical assistance.
