Three killed in a building collapse in Amraiwadi area of Ahmedabad on September 5.

In yet another tragic incident, three people died and several others were injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Amraiwadi area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday, September 5. Around 8 people were feared trapped under the debris of the collapsed structure.

Several fire tenders rushed to the spot to clear the rubble in an attempt to rescue survivors trapped beneath it who were later sent for treatment to a nearby hospital. According to the police, people living in the neighborhood were the first to respond to the incident. The locals along with the police and fire fighters cleared the debris.

Doctors declared an elderly couple and a 36-year-old woman as brought dead. According to the local residents about four to five families inhabited the building which is said to be around hundred years old.

The police accounted that they underwent trouble while clearing the area due to a lot of interference by the bystanders walking over the rubble. The police said they were hearing out for cries and help from underneath the debris but those were not audible due to the people gathering around the site where the incident took place.

This incident is the latest on the list of building collapse in Ahmedabad in recent weeks. This incident should be taken as a warning by the regional municipal corporation so that to keep a check and audit all aged buildings and structures in the city to avoid such incidents in the future.
