7 dead & 23 injured in a blast at Gujarat Fluorochemicals ltd. in Panchmahal on Dec 16

An explosion took place inside the Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited (GFL) which is located in Ranjitnagar area of Goghamba in Panchmahal district, Gujarat during the morning hours of December 16. A sudden chaos was formed at around 10 am after the blast took place inside the MPI-1 unit of the refrigerant manufacturing plant. The explosion was so massive that it was heard several kilometres away in the taluka. It raised a wave of panic among the people as a plume of black smoke covered the area.

Fire tenders from across the district rushed to the spot after receiving the information and started the evacuation process soon after reaching. They also had to stop the traffic in the area due to the incident. The fire tenders faced a lot of difficulties while fighting the flame due to the billowing smoke but somehow managed to take the situation under control.


A total of 30 workers were injured in the explosion and subsequent fire and were shifted to different hospitals in the district. According to the reports, 7 people died and 23 workers are under treatment. Moreover, the details on the nature of the blast have not yet been confirmed.
