A building collapsed in the city of Bhiwandi on April 29


An unfortunate incident took place during the afternoon hours of April 29, after a 3-storey building collapsed in Vardhman Compound area of Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The tragic incident occurred at around 1:45 pm trapping around 22 people under the debris. According to the reports, the building was 10 years old and had a warehouse on the ground and first floor where food items were made and 4 families were residing on the second floor. This situation raised a wave of panic among the locals. The rescue teams were deployed in the area after receiving the information regarding the horrendous situation.


Around 10 fire tenders along with 2 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) soon rushed to the spot after receiving the information and immediately started the rescue operation. The relief and rescue operation continued throughout the night of April 30 and was called off during the morning hours (around 9.45 am) of May 1. The authorities with help from the locals of the area managed to pull out all the people from the wreckage of the building. The rescue team faced problem while removing the debris as the incident spot was crowded with people.


As per the reports, the 8 people died in this incident while 14 people were injured and are being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Moreover, the police have arrested the owner of the building and booked him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
