An explosion took place in a firework factory in Madurai district, Tamil Nadu on Nov 10


A frantic situation was formed during the afternoon hours of November 10, when an explosion took place at VBM Fireworks Unit in Azhagusirai area nearby Vadakampatti, Madurai district, Tamil Nadu. The explosion took place at around 1:30 pm when the workers were involved in mixing of chemicals to make aerial crackers. A sudden chaos was formed among the locals of the area when the blast took place as it was heard several kilometres away from the spot and plume of black smoke covered the area. The fire department and the police department were soon informed regarding the horrendous situation.


Fire tenders from Tirumangalam and Usilampatti along with police personnel and health workers soon rushed to the spot after receiving the information and immediately started the rescue operation. The authorities with help from the locals of the area managed to evacuated all the people trapped under the wreckage of the factory. However, by the time the firemen arrived at the scene, there was no flame.


As per reports, a total of 5 people died in this incident while, 13 people were injured and were rushed to Government hospital in Tirumangalam for medical attention. Furthermore, the condition of 6 people was so critical that they have been admitted to the Government Rajaji hospital. They have suffered bleeding injuries on their faces, head, limbs and hips.
