An under-construction tunnel collapsed in Katni district, MP

An unfortunate incident took place during the evening hours of February 12, after an under-construction tunnel collapsed in Sleemanabad area of Katni district in Madhya Pradesh. According to the reports, the work was going on to build an underground tunnel from Bargi Dam on the Narmada River to Bansagar. The tragic incident occurred at around 7:30 pm when digging work was under process trapping 9 laborers under the debris. This situation raised a wave of panic in the area. The SDRF and NDRF departments were informed regarding the horrendous situation.
Teams of SDRF and NDRF from Katni and Jabalpur soon rushed to the spot after receiving the information and immediately started the rescue operation. They managed to rescue all the trapped people from under the debris with the help of the locals in the area. They faced a lot of difficulties while performing the rescue operation.
As per the reports, the workers were trapped around 30 feet below ground level. The tunnel’s roof and sidewalls were made of concrete so after it collapsed the roof and walls laid on each other at different angles where 7 of the workers were trapped in the gaps. A 30 hours straight rescue operation was conducted to rescue all the trapped labours. Later, 7 of the labours were rescued from under the debris and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention while 2 labours were found dead.
