Bus accident on Uttarakhand’s Mussoorie - Dehradun road; two died & many injured


A roadways bus lost control and rolled down 150 feet gorge near Shergadi on Mussoorie-Dehradun route in Uttarakhand on April 2 in the afternoon. Two passengers died while 26 others injured in this mishap.


This mishap took place when a state transport bus rolled down 150 ft after losing control near JP bend. The rescue operation was carried out by district authorities and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force and local police team. After this mishap chaos occurred in the area. Senior district officials, fire and ambulance had also reached to the spot to control the situation. Around 26 people safely rescued from the area and immediately shifted to nearby hospital in Uttarakhand and Dehradhun for treatment. 6 passengers discharged after primary treatment from the hospital. The cause of accident was not ascertained so far.


Out of 26 people three of them were critically injured while two girls were died. Mehak Lakheda (15) and her mother Sudha Lakheda (40), who were residents of Mussoorie. Total 42 people were traveling in the bus when the bus overturned. 16 were women, 19 men and 5 children.


Due to the accident, the traffic on this route was affected for a while, which created inconvenience for travelers. An FIR has been filed at local police station whereas further investigation is on to know the exact reason behind this accident. But, as per the local source, this accident happened due to brake failure. According to the SDRF, the roadways bus overturned from the main road and crashed about 70 metres down.


Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the bus accident.
