Fire ignited at an oil godown in Vanagaram area of Chennai on August 18



A frantic situation was formed during the early hours of August 18, when a massive fire broke out at Mr. Gold oil warehouse in Vanagaram service road next to Maduravayala area in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. A sudden chaos was formed among the locals of the area at around 2 am when they noticed that fire has engulfed the oil warehouse. According to the reports, the blaze first erupted at the oil warehouse and later spread to various nearby warehouses including plywood warehouse and tiles warehouse. This situation raised a wave of panic among the people as the area was soon engulfed with billowing smoke. The fire department were informed regarding the horrendous situation.


Around 14 fire tenders from various fire stations including Maduravayal, Poontamalli, Virugambakkam, Kilpakkam, Egmore, KK Nagar, Avadi, Ambattur rushed to the spot to fight the flames. They firstly evacuated all the people living near the area and later started extinguishing the flame. The fire tenders faced difficulties while fighting the flame due to the plume of smoke, but soon took the situation under control and after lot of efforts the fire was doused off.


Furthermore, 3 tankers filled with oil were parked near the oil warehouse also gutted in the flame. Goods worth crores of rupees were destroyed in this fire. No casualties were reported in this incident but the people living in the area had suffocation and breathing problems.
