Fire ignited in a packaging factory in Vareli area of Surat on October 18

A frantic situation was formed during the morning hours of October 18, when a massive fire broke out at Viva Packaging Company located in Kadodara Industrial Area at Vareli in the city of Surat, Gujarat. A sudden chaos was formed among the workers who were working on the fifth floor of the 5-storey packaging unit after the massive blaze erupted at around 4:30 am. The locals first tried to control the fire in the initial stage but soon the fire engulfed the entire factory. The fire was so terrible that it raised a wave of panic among the people as a plume of black smoke covered the area.
A total of 18 fire tenders along with Hydraulic cranes soon rushed to the spot after receiving the information and started the evacuation process. They managed to rescue around 145 people who were present inside the building during the horrendous situation. However, the fire tenders took the situation under control and after lot of efforts the fire was doused off.
According to the reports, the blaze erupted in the basement of the factory and the flames went up to the third floor. Several people attempted to escape through the windows and pipes of the building after the blaze broke out. 2 people died in this incident as they jumped off the building to escape death. Moreover, the rescued people were rushed to different hospitals for medical attention. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
