Fire ignited in Kolkata’s Tangra area; three firemen injured


A massive fire broke out in a leather warehouse in Tangra area of Kolkata, West Bengal. More than 16 fire tenders had rushed to the spot to fight the flames. This mishap took place due to some highly inflammable materials in the warehouse. Three firefighters had injured in this mishap.


This fire ignited in a leather factory and warehouse at around 6.30 pm on March 12. A factory located at Meher Ali Lane no. 3 in the capital. The cause of fire was not ascertained. Factory workers immediately called to the fire brigade team and local police station after this mishap. They also reached quickly on the spot to manage the situation. The fire had spread to a nearby building till they reached to the area. As soon as the workers evacuated the building. Tangra area is very crowded and the intensity of the fire was high. The inhabitants of the adjacent shanties were also evacuated due to the horrendous situation. Firefighters had faced issue during this operation due to some highly inflammable materials of the warehouse and congested area. Fire brigade van faced problem to enter the narrow lanes. Unfortunately three firefighters were injured during this incident. Workers shifted them to the hospital for treatment. Factory boundary wall also collapsed due to the fire. Chemicals, rexine and clothes were kept inside the factory due to which the fire spread rapidly. During this rescue operation, the water in the fire brigade ran out and local people were trying to extinguish the fire by taking buckets of water from their homes.


Fire brought under control after few hours. All factory materials had destroyed in the fire. Fire Minister Sujit Basu haf reached the spot.Police team also registered a complaint. Further investigation was underway in the area.
