Major fire gutted in a timber godown near Dombivli railway station on July 15



A major fire had broken out in a godown located on 2nd floor of Laxmi Niwas Building near Railway Station in Dombivli East of Thane, Maharashtra on July 15. No casualty was reported in this mishap. Fire brigade was rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control after an hour of efforts. The entire area was filled with smoke and a chaotic situation was developed near the railway station premises.


The three-storey Laxmi Niwas building is situated closed to the Dombivli railway station and houses residential as well as commercial properties. It houses a timber godown as well on 2nd floor which suddenly caught fire during the afternoon hours. Some locals noticed smoke coming out of the building around 3 pm - 3.30 pm and immediately informed the fire brigade. By the time the fire tenders could reach the spot, entire godown was engulfed in the flames. Three fire tenders were pressed into services and the fire was brought under control by 4.30 pm. Meanwhile, all the material stored in this godown was reduced to ashes.


Since the building is located exactly opposite to the railway station, traffic movement was heavy in the area. Large number of people had gathered to witness the firefighting operation. The traffic movement around the incident location was also affected due to movement of emergency vehicles.
