Major fire gutted the Rani Sati Dyeing Mill at Pandesara in Surat on November 27



A major fire had broken out at the Rani Sati Dyeing Mill located at Pandesara GIDC Plot No. 87-88 in Surat on November 27. At least 15 fire tenders of the Surat Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) were deployed at the spot and the fire was extinguished after two hours of efforts. No casualty was reported in this mishap however, the entire unit of the mill was gutted in the blaze.


The fire was erupted at 10 am on the ground floor of the two-storey building during starting the central machine which was closed for a period of seven days. Three workers were inside the mill when the fire was ignited however, all of them managed to escape safely. The fire rapidly spread across the mill due to the oil supply network. The fire engulfed the entire printing unit as well as cloth godown and canteen of the mill.


Fire brigade was immediately rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident. A ‘Brigade Call’ was declared due to intensity of the fire and the fire tenders from 10 fire stations were deployed to contain the flames. It took around two hours to extinguish the blaze and alter cooling operation was carried out. Cloth and chemical stored at the unit and the machinery was completely gutted in this fire. However, no injury or casualty was reported in this mishap.


Huge clouds of thick smoke were billowing from the incident location which could be seen from many kilometers. A panicking situation was developed in the nearby production units at Pandesara GIDC. Large number of people had gathered around the mill. Police personnel had to cordon off the entire area so that fire brigade could carry out operation without any interruption. Furthermore, a detailed probe has been ordered to find out the exact cause of fire and to estimate the losses incurred due to this fire.
