Three gangsters killed inside Rohini Court in New Delhi on September 24

India’s national capital witnessed a filmy style shootout inside a courtroom on September 24, 2021. Two assailants shot dead a gangster at Rohini Court complex in New Delhi while both the attackers were neutralized by police in retaliatory firing. The jailed gangster Jitender Gogi was among the three killed in this shootout. The shooting was said to be the result of old rivalry between Jitender Gogi's gang and the rival Tillu gang. The incident raised concerns about the security in the national capital.
The shootout took place inside Court Room No. 207 around 1.15 pm when gangster Jitender Maan alias Gogi, carrying a reward of Rs. 6.5 lakh on his head, was brought for hearing. The killers were already present in the courtroom in the lawyer’s attire. As soon as Gogi entered the courtroom the gunmen started firing on him. The police personnel, who were escorting Gogi, acted swiftly and killed both the gunmen in counter firing. At least 30 shots were fired during this entire shootout. Meanwhile, Gogi was hit by six bullets and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. One female lawyer also received a bullet injury in her leg.
A chaotic situation was developed in the court premises after hearing the gunshots. The CCTV footage showed people rushing out in panic to save their lives. The incident also exposed security lapses in the system. Citing the lack of security, All District Bar Associations in Delhi resolved to abstain from work on September 25.
Furthermore, a plea has been filed in Delhi High Court concerning the safety at court premises. Similarly, the security has been tightened in jails housing members of Gogi and Tillu gangs. Delhi police have arrested two persons in connection with the Rohini Court Shootout case and further investigation is underway in this matter. The joint commissioner of police (northern range) will enquire further into this case and submit a report.
