Two dead and four injured after a wall collapsed at Central Railway premises in Dombivli



On September 21, two employees died and four others sustained injuries after a wall they were building for Central Railway (CR) in Siddharth Nagar next to the Kopar Bridge collapsed on them.


The incident occurred around 6.30 in the evening. As soon as the incident was reported, the fire brigade team rushed to the spot immediately and rescued those injured from debris. The injured were sent to the local Shastri Nagar hospital for necessary treatment. However, two of them died as a result of injuries sustained during treatment. Whereas, the train services on the Central line were not affected due to this incident.


According to the sources, to create the wall for Central Railway that was meant to stop encroachments on the railway premises, at least 12 employees were present at the site digging a trench.


Sources further revealed that, the nearby wall that fell belonged to a private owner. The old wall was said to be in poor condition when the incident occurred.


According to the police officials, the work of boundary wall to prevent encroachment on Railway premises was undertaken at Dombivli west. The location is quite far from the Dombivli station area. Whereas, while working, a private wall (rather than a railway wall) adjacent to the railway work site collapsed, injuring contractual labourers. They were rushed to the hospital.

The police officials provided all the necessary assistance at the incident site. The accident is being investigated by police.
